Laurier segregated bike lane ambassadors needed

Let’s help make Ottawa the Cycling Capital of Canada by promoting the first downtown segregated bike lane in Ontario!

Volunteers are needed to inform cyclists, pedestrians and motorists how to use the Laurier Segregated Bike Lane. The lane connects the west end of downtown, near Chinatown, with the east end near Ottawa University and the ByWard Market.

Ambassadors will be required to attend an evening briefing session to explain how to properly use the bike lane. This will take place Thursday, July 7, from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Council chambers at Ottawa City Hall.  At this session, bike vests will be given out to easily identify ambassadors. Ambassadors will be stationed at the eight major intersections along Laurier, where postcards with a map and website for the bike lane will be distributed.  The website will have an animation on how to use the bike lane.  Ambassadors will answer questions to the best of their ability and tell people where they can get more detailed information.

We will need volunteers for opening day: Sunday, July 10, from 10 a.m. to noon. More importantly, we need volunteers on Monday July 11, when it will have the most cars, cyclists and pedestrians.  We will need volunteers for three peak periods: 7:30-9:00 a.m.,  noon to 1:30 p.m.,  and 3:30-5:00 p.m. 50 volunteers will be required to cover 100 positions over the two days.  If you can volunteer for more than one time slot that would be great!
