"Should I be fortunate enough to represent River Ward you will have a valuable advocate on council. I have had many friends subject to unruly motorists while riding their bikes. I would support and push for more bikes lanes, more cycle paths and a awareness program outlining the importance of sharing the road. A think courtesy campaign.
I hope this answers your question. Thanks for your request for my opinion."

I wholly support the bicycling program that is shown on your website.
I am a LONG time bicycle rider myself and have even used bicycles in winter time.
I have also use bicycles around the world and Ottawa can learn from other cites.
For example, I really like the way that the City of Montreal has built dedicated bicycles lanes as part of its street network. I wish we had those here in Ottawa!
And getting back to winter use, we need to have ALL of the major bicycles routes cleared of snow in the winter. This would also include the NCC pathways.

As Chair of the Transportation Committee, I oversaw the approval of the Ottawa Cycling Plan, which identifies the need to improve existing off-road multiuse pathways and on-road cycling facilities and to complete missing links in the existing cycling network and provide connections to the National Capital Commission pathways. The plan calls for 1,200 new kilometres of bike lanes, multiuse pathways and paved shoulders and Council has ensured that pedestrian and cycling facilities are included in all new and reconstructed roads.
Through Capital and Economic Stimulus Funding, this year, the City made the largest investment in cycling since amalgamation. For example, there are new multiuse pathways in Mooney?s Bay Park, Sawmill Creek, etc. and a new multiuse pathway is being constructed over the Airport Parkway. But, there is more to be done.
The City needs to continue this investment and aggressively implement the Ottawa Cycling Plan. As we carry out the plan, I want to continue to work with our residents and groups such as Citizens for Safe Cycling to ensure that we moving forward together.

Bicycle use clearly reduces our carbon footprint and promotes healthy living. The City of Ottawa needs to work with the National Capital Commission to provide a network of safe and time-efficient bicycle routes that would encourage cycling. These should be designed to reduce, as much as possible, the "white-knuckle factor" that presently discourages bicycle use in the city.
