As Chair of the Transportation Committee, I oversaw the approval of the Ottawa Cycling Plan, which identifies the need to improve existing off-road multiuse pathways and on-road cycling facilities and to complete missing links in the existing cycling network and provide connections to the National Capital Commission pathways.  The plan calls for 1,200 new kilometres of bike lanes, multiuse pathways and paved shoulders and Council has ensured that pedestrian and cycling facilities are included in all new and reconstructed roads.

Through Capital and Economic Stimulus Funding, this year, the City made the largest investment in cycling since amalgamation.  For example, there are new multiuse pathways in Mooney?s Bay Park, Sawmill Creek, etc. and a new multiuse pathway is being constructed over the Airport Parkway.  But, there is more to be done.

The City needs to continue this investment and aggressively implement the Ottawa Cycling Plan.  As we carry out the plan, I want to continue to work with our residents and groups such as Citizens for Safe Cycling to ensure that we moving forward together.
