Unfortunately, common occurrences to Ottawa during cycling season are the number of collisions, injuries and associated deaths involving bicycles. Many of Ottawa roads are quite simply and strictly speaking not designed, planned (especially with existing road infrastructure) or encouraging for cyclists to ride, and yet cycling is economically, environmentally, and socially most favourable. A multi-facet solution is necessary that combines policy, infrastructure, and a new City Council.It has taken till 2008 for the current City Councillors to move on an Ottawa Cycling Plan, the majority having been employed as Councillors since 2003. Five years for our current Councillors to think up that cycling is a priority in Ottawa!
