How you can contribute

Help at a booth CfSC presents information booths about cycling at many community events throughout the year. Help us organize or present a booth for your community this year. Booths are always hosted by at least one volunteer who is knowledgeable about CfSC and who can help you with your first experience. You can also help by transporting the booth materials from our locker to the booth site (and back): we have a bike trailer you can use if possible.
Write a letter to your city councillor The best way to get your city councillor to vote for cycling is to let them know these issues are important to you -- and give them clear, cogent reasons to do so. CfSC can alert you when letters are needed.
Report cycling problems Report small problems before they become bigger problems. Report that dangerous pothole, crack, and broken glass. Call parking control to report that person parked in the bike lane. Report the bus driver who cut you off. See
Get the word out Talk to your friends and get them involved in cycling. Write letters or articles to your local paper promoting cycling (we can help you if you like). Speak out for cycling at public meetings. If you belong to a community association, see if they would like to sponsor a cycling course for local residents—children or adults or both.
Promote cycling at your workplace CfSC has many resources for organizing cyclists at work places. Our Bicycle User Group (BUG) guide tells you how to improve facilities like parking, showers, and changerooms for cyclists, as well as encouraging people to cycle to work.
Participate in the CfSC Discuss email list Keep abreast of the latest news on cycling in Ottawa, and discuss CfSC policies and cycling issues. Go here to join.
Join the Advocacy Committee Make your efforts more effective by working with other CfSC members to attain specific cycling objectives. The Advocacy Committee normally meets on the last Thursday of each month.
Help at social events and general meetings Someone has to order the pizza, bring the coffee and milk and sugar, rent the room, and clean up afterwards. Your board will really appreciate the extra pairs of hands -- and that means CfSC can organize more fun events.
