Agnes Davis - September 2000 Volunteer of the month

Agnes DavisAgnes Davis is a member of a cycling family, including husband Bill and son Paul, who have been enthusiastically promoting cycling in the Ottawa area for a decade. This month CfSC is pleased to recognize Agnes Davis for her many personal contributions as a CfSC volunteer.

Throughout this year Agnes has been a valuable volunteer in the Cycling Safety and Promotion program. One of the core volunteers who have brought Better Bicycling to tens of thousands of local residents, Agnes has helped both put this newspaper together and then deliver it where readers could pick it up. She wrote "A motivator for cycling" about the value of a cycling log, and stimulated an article from a car-free family. Earlier this year Agnes was a member of a small team that put together CfSC's first and highly popular book on cycling for mature adults. She provided both photographs and text for the publication and critically reviewed drafts of the booklet before it went to press.

At many events in past years including cycling promotion booths at community events, BIKE Week, The Ride for Cycling and more, Agnes has been one of the smiling and helpful volunteers who could be found behind the CfSC table. Members attending CfSC's pot luck social before the annual meeting in recent years are aware of her delicious culinary talents!

Behind the scenes, Agnes has provided thoughtful and welcomed encouragement and advice and feedback on CfSC operations and draft policies to Board and committee members, and has participated in CfSC Board and committee meetings as an active member.

Agnes has fit this in among all her other volunteer commitments, in her community, in her church, and helping new Canadians.

In early September Agnes helped keep the CfSC Cycling Safety and Promotion office open to serve the public when the coordinator was away. Agnes worked a shift during weekday office hours when volunteers were hard to find but very much needed.

We extend our thanks to Agnes for her many years of contributions and wish her many years of enjoyment speeding along on the new, faster bike she just bought!
