Jennifer Bookhout - May 2002 Volunteer of the month
Citizens for Safe Cycling is pleased to name Jennifer Bookhout as volunteer of the month for May. Jennifer contacted CfSC in March after seeing our posting at Volunteer Ottawa. She came along at exactly the right time. CfSC was looking to re-design the certificates for the cycling skills courses that we offer. We were sorely lacking in the graphic design department, and Jennifer was looking for an opportunity to help out while debating a career change.
Jennifer lives in Centretown so it was easy for her to drop by the office and say hello. She enthusiastically took on the task of designing the certificates for Kids CAN-BIKE, CAN-BIKE Traffic Skills and for Adult Learn to Ride. If you or your child enrols in one of these courses, you will get to see Jenn's work first hand.
About herself, Jennifer says:
I moved from Cornwall to Ottawa in 1993 to attend university. I lived in Kingston for a year in 1999/2000. I swim, play co-ed recreational soccer and garden at a community garden in centretown in my spare time. I'm having some fun until school starts in September.
I've worked from Ottawa for an NGO in Burlington (Planning Commissioners Journal). I helped with the design of the Internet site "Sprawl Guide."
In 1995, I worked for the Child Welfare League of Canada (NGO). I have volunteered before for an Ottawa HIV/AIDS benefit and will be helping out at the Relay for Life at Nepean Sportsplex this June (Canadian Cancer Society).
Cycling gets me to my favorite spot in Gatineau Park: The MacKenzie King Estate. I'm a bikepath type of cyclist that usually rides to Carleton University from downtown and back. I need to take a traffic course!"
Jennifer, we would all like to extend a welcome to the CfSC Volunteer Team, and congratulations on your volunteer of the month achievements!
