Bike maps poster asking for beta testers

Psst… Want to test our beta cycling app? Volunteers needed!

Looking for a routing app that provides comfortable routes when getting around by bike, scooter or another wheeled device?

For the past couple of years, Bike Ottawa has partnered with the Cycling Guide Foundation to do just that: build on our popular web-based route planning app to develop a mobile app built for people of all ages and abilities in all cities in Canada. Unlike other apps that treat bikes as an afterthought, this one prioritizes low-traffic routes, safety, and your needs on two (or three) wheels.

We’re incredibly excited about what’s coming, and are inviting you to help us bring it to life.

We’re looking for volunteers in two important roles. Whether you’re passionate about pedaling or geek out over maps, there’s a spot for you.

What you’ll do:

Download the beta version of our app, try it on the roads, and tell us what works and what doesn’t. Every bit of feedback helps us know how it performs across Ottawa!

What you can expect:

  • Early access to a new cycling route planning app, designed for Ottawa
  • Have your say
  • A simple guide for submitting feedback
  • Responses from the development team as they work through your feedback
  • Flexibility: ride and test when it works for you

You’d be great if:

  • You love to bike, especially across different parts of Ottawa
  • You are curious, observant, and ready to share honest feedback
  • You can commit to trying at least a few routes and reporting back, at home or while out and about

How to join:

Fill out this quick Google Form (1-2 minutes) and we’ll be in touch!

What you’ll do:

Help update the data behind the app! When we spot issues—like the app routing cyclists through the wrong areas—you’ll help correct them using OpenStreetMap.

What you can expect:

  • A short training to get you up to speed
  • A how-to guide and personal support from Bike Ottawa
  • Full flexibility: help out when and as often as you like
  • The satisfaction of improving maps for everyone across the city

You’d be great if:

  • You care about open-source, community-driven mapping tools
  • You want to make biking safer and easier in Ottawa
  • You enjoy detail-oriented tasks
  • Experience with OpenStreeMap is great, but not required.
